Algonquin Designer Prints!

This little Webpage thrives on Unique Native Prints Promoting  Native Awareness and Cultural Diversity, using a Modern Contemporary Style. Registered Copyrights on All PRINTS.

PICTURES ARE BASED UPON :"THE NO FACE DOLL"-with the legends behind them.

The Algonquin children were taught great respect for their “Elders” to put a face on a toy of any sort would be disrespectful to the “Elders” and the teachings of the consequences of “vanity” and spirits (believing that putting a face on a doll is like placing a spirit in the doll).  The Children of the Woodland Indians often traveled to the different camps from season to season, which made them very lonesome for their friends. So the no face doll provided a way for the children to pretend and imagine their friends faces on the doll. This temporarily gave them companionship and a way to fulfill their lonely time.
